Bonnie and Patrick

Bonnie and Patrick met in the fall of 1992 when people from an Internet discussion group got together for lunch. Bonnie would say later that she knew when Patrick came through the door. Patrick would say that if it wasn’t love at first sight, it was darn close. In their first hug, there at the restaurant, Patrick hugged Bonnie so hard that she said, “Hey! Don’t break me.”
They were together for the next two years, moved to Washington together, and began building a life.
Unfortunately, due to matters beyond their control, they broke up. When Patrick said good-bye to Bonnie, as he left for a job in Las Vegas, she said, “I know I’ll never see you again.” Thankfully, she was wrong. But, this began an 11 year separation for them.
During those years, they never stopped communicating. They would talk on the phone regularly. Patrick always remembered to call on his birthday, May 13. And he would call three months later, to the day, on August 13 – Bonnie’s birthday.
Today is November 13th, three months after Bonnie’s birthday, just as her birthday follows three months after Patrick’s. When they decided on this church, St. Paul’s Historic Church of the Plains, Patrick called to ask if November 13th was available. The response he got was, “This year? The church is booked up to a year and a half in advance.” Well, as you can see, the church was available for their day.
Something happened to Patrick about a year ago. As Bonnie tells it, he started to become whole again after many years of being fragmented. In that wholeness, Patrick came to realize how much he had always loved Bonnie and how important she is to him. He hoped and prayed for at least a reunion, seeing each other one more time. That took place on March 1st.
